We’re Hiring! Youth Services Librarian

The Norwich Public Library seeks a creative, energetic, and community-oriented Youth Services Librarian.

This full-time position plays a vital role in promoting early literacy and lifelong learning by providing inclusive, engaging library services and programming for children ages 0–14 and their caregivers, educators, and families. To learn more about the position and to apply, please view the full job description HERE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for youth and their families
  • Serve as an advocate for children’s reading rights, supporting choice, and access to a diverse array of books and resources
  • Maintain and develop the youth services collection, including selection, weeding, and budgeting
  • Plan, develop, and deliver engaging programs for children of all ages, including weekly storytimes (at NPL or off-site) after school activities, summer reading programs, and special monthly events
  • Cultivate strong relationships with local schools, preschools, daycare centers, and nonprofit organizations across the Upper Valley

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a public library setting, with a primary focus on youth services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • A passion for public service and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of children’s literature, early literacy practices, and youth development
  • Experience in collection development and budgeting
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in planning and leading dynamic programs and events
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of automated library systems; experience with Koha preferred 
  • Experience with Google Workspace 

Schedule & Benefits:

This is a 37.5-hour per week onsite position (M-F 9:30-5:30 PM) Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for special programs or events. Pay is $26.00 – $28.50 per hour depending on experience.
