COMMUNITY ART EXHIBIT:

My Tour de France
by Becky Cook

I found the travel diary I used in 1998 when I went to Paris the first time. I didn’t think I would ever get to see the art in Paris museums in person. It was a real treat to go to the Louvre, the Dorsey, and smaller museums.

My French teacher in High School went to Paris every summer and brought back slides of various artist’s works. She would show the slides and have us take quizzes. We memorized the artist names and Madam Churchill would point out the subject matter, we learned about various French artists. I enjoyed the subject matter in the French class.

I enjoyed learning and it helped me to decide to take Art History courses in college. Though I did enjoy the art course in high school, the college courses covered ancient times and taught me to dig deeper into the information. and in earlier times. I learned about how the artists made egg tempura for paint on their walls in ancient times.

Since college, I have taken many courses at Ava to improve my skills as an artist including encaustic, oil painting, drawing, and watercolor.
