Do you have a taste for apples (or apple pie)? On Saturday, October 5, Norwich Public Library will host an Apple Social! Our Apple Social features a variety of activities including a dessert potluck, apple cider pressing, and hard apple cider tastings.
1:00 – 3:00, Dessert potluck and cider pressing. Drop by with an apple-themed dessert and taste desserts made by others! We’ll also have apples from our friends at Sweetland Farm and a cider press for hands-on cider tasting. We welcome you to bring apples from your own backyard, and feel free to let us know what apple-themed dessert you are interested in bringing (and we’ll make some, too).
Beginning at 3:00, the library will be serving an arsenal of hard cider tastings from a variety of local vendors for all those of legal drinking age. Corina’s Switchy of Norwich will join us to offer samples of their artisanal switchel made, in-part, with organic apple cider vinegar.
3:00 – 4:00, Talk by Ben Watson, author of Cider: Hard and Sweet. Ben Watson will share the cultural and historical roots of apples and cider, introducing us to different types of apples and styles of cider. Ben will also share his storied knowledge of apple products with us.
Come socialize with apple-themed foods from our Norwich backyard!
Apple Social at NPL is part of Rooted in Vermont Week sponsored by Vermont Department of Libraries and Rooted in Vermont. Rooted in Vermont Week aims to promote local food and exploration of our local backyards. Apple Social is sponsored by the Friends of the Norwich Public Library.
